Etiology of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in a Large Cohort of Children
نویسندگان
چکیده
(1) Background: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), a compressive mononeuropathy of the median nerve at wrist, is rare in childhood and occurs most frequently due to secondary causes. (2) Methods: Medical history, electrodiagnostic findings, imaging data patients with CTS from two pediatric neuromuscular centers were analyzed retrospectively. The etiology was investigated compared literature. (3) Results: We report on cohort 38 (n = 22 females, n 29 bilateral, mean age diagnosis 9.8 years). Electrodiagnostic studies all revealed slowing antidromic sensory or orthodromic mixed conduction velocities across carpal lack action potential and/or prolonged distal motor latencies. Median ultrasound diagnostic for confirmed tumorous vascular malformations. Etiology 29; 76%), mucopolysaccharidosis frequent underlying condition 14; 37%). Idiopathic this 9; 24%). (4) Conclusion: Since predominantly caused by an disorder, thorough evaluation search causative recommended group.

Etiology and Conservative Treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a neuropathy caused by entrapment and compression of the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel in the wrist, leading to a decrease in nerve transmission to and from the hand. Symptoms include pain, numbness, tingling, aching, and loss of motor and sensory function in the first three digits of the hand. These symptoms are typically worse at night and...

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is defined by compression of the median nerve in the wrist. It is the commonest of the compressive syndromes and its most frequent cause is idiopathic. Even though spontaneous regression is possible, the general rule is that the symptoms will worsen. The diagnosis is primarily clinical, from the symptoms and provocative tests. Electroneuromyographic examination may ...
متن کاملACUPUNCTURE AND CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME About carpal tunnel syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome comprises potentially disabling sensory and/or motor symptoms in the hand. Around 1 in 10 people develop carpal tunnel syndrome at some point, and it is particularly common in women (Hughes 2007), with one study in the UK indicating an incidence of 139.4 cases per 100,000 women per year and 67.2 cases per 100,000 men (Bland 2003). The condition carries considerable implic...
متن کاملManual therapy in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome in diabetic patients: A randomized clinical trial
Background: Generally, conservative interventions including physiotherapy modalities and manual therapy have been recommended in the management of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), but this subject has not been studied in diabetic patients with CTS. Therefore the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of manual therapy on diabetic patients with CTS. Methods: Thirty diabetic patients with...
